[personal profile] meorae
Livejournal has been annoying me lately. For some reason it won't let me update as [personal profile] meorae and so I have to sign in as someone else, go to update journal and then click update journal as another user, which is incredibly annoying.

And then the picture of Josh Groban I have as my background of my lj randomly disappears for no reason and I can't get it to come back for like a week. And those are just normal problems.

What annoys me more are all of the stupid changes lj has been implementing since it merged with sixapart. Tags annoy me because they only show the entries that have been tagged in like the past few months, so even if a user is tagging every single post with descriptions of that post, clicking a tag won't bring up every single post that has been tagged with that description, only the most recent ones. I can generally find a post if it's on the user's first page of their journal and past that I'd like to be able to use tags to find that post I remember being about suchandsuch around a year ago, but I can't, because it's not recent. Memories worked fine for finding posts, but now people and communities barely use memories, so I can't even find the important posts anymore.

And then there's the sponsored level of ads that just disgust me. I mean adding ads to lj was an april fools joke last year. First of all, they destroy almost everyone's layout that I've looked at. And then they look bad and are completely random, so even if you choose to add ads that are about say, games, they'll add ads about like gambling, which I certainly wouldn't want on my lj. At least Google ads don't interrupt anything when you're doing searches and they actually show relevant ads.

And wtf is the 'current location' thing. An interesting thing, but it links to a map and online, are you really going to put 111 Nameofstreet, Nameoftown, Nameofstate? Of course not. So then you end up putting 'in front of my desk' and then you get a map of a random store that has a name like that.

Also, I personally dislike the 'My LJ' thing and just avoid it. And the navigation strip just looks bad, so I don't use that either. Although the idea of a navigation strip is good, it's just one extra click to go to whichever journal you are viewing's profile and access all of that stuff from the normal lj header. Plus the nudge thing is just lame. If you want to know what someone's up to, you can email them, you can call them, you can im them, you can talk to them in real life. If you don't care enough to do any of those, should you really be friends with this person?

Recently, they've made stupid changes to the customize and edit info pages, which just look bad now in my opinion. I had no problem with the old pages.

And what led me to post this is what they're planning now. Does anyone have any problem with the current profile page? Because lj seems to think that it needs to be changed and I really dislike it. Why is the first thing I see the number of friends/communities the person has? Shouldn't I be seeing who this user is before I see how many friends they have? I don't have a myspace because I don't care how many friends I have or you have or Mary Sue has, only whether the person is interesting and shares interests with me. So why are interests now way at the bottom?

It really looks like lj is trying to become myspace with the schools, location and now the new profile. Oh, and look sixapart is releasing a new blogging site for adults, it's called VOX. Seems to be implying that they're leaving lj (made up of 'primarily teenagers and twenty-somethings' according to sixapart, which is utter bs in my opinion) to become like myspace and moving on to vox... Wonderful. Thank you sixapart and livejournal.

(No offense to anyone who has a myspace or likes myspace...)

ps. I forgot to link to this which ya'll should all sign if you agree with me.

edit (10:00): The profile doesn't look so bad anymore. And different people who work for lj have been kind enough to explain things to the masses. Hey, even if acting rashly and obviously without much thought generally have bad outcomes, at least lj gave us information. But I still don't like many of the other recent (as in the past year) changes. Although at least you can switch back from rich text mode to plain text. Right, finals, studying of course that's what I'm doing...
