A while ago my brother made a post about polygamy that received a lot of comments, most of them implying that the hypothetical polygamy my brother was talking about sounded all right to them. Recently, I came across a post by a user proclaiming that she was ‘polyamorous’ and as I had never seen that term before, I researched into polyamory a bit. Turns out that polyamory is what people who practice what my brother was talking about call their lifestyle because polygamy has such a bad connotation, what with mormons and women being treated as objects instead of people. So I thought some of you who commented on that post might be interested in some of the things I found.

First of all, what is polyamory? And a site’s FAQs about polyamory. And another site’s FAQs about polyamory. And that same site’s myths about polyamory.

Then there’s this which is a long conversation between a polyamorous person and a women who’s husband just came out as polyamorous. I thought it was really insightful.

And then almost everyone who commented on my brother’s post mentioned jealousy. So here and here talk about dealing with jealousy.

Finally some random communities if any of you are still interested… [livejournal.com profile] polyamory and [livejournal.com profile] compersion are both lj communities dealing with polyamory. And then there’s a google group and its website. And another random link which I think has an interesting idea.

I personally think that a polyamorous relationship is possible and like my brother believe there isn’t actually anything wrong with more than two people in a relationship together. I’m not sure I’d ever want to be in a polyamorous relationship, but I enjoyed reading through these things.

And now I go to sleep as I have to babysit tomorrow morning...
