First off: Funny summary of HBP

The Repeated Reasons My Ship Hasn't Sunk:
1. 11 things that didn't happen in HBP
2. Pg 330, with Lupin staring at the fire and obviously thinking of Sirius with that love song playing in the background.
3. The fact that Tonks feels her love is unrequited means there was no R/T when Sirius was still alive.
4. Just because Remus is involved with another person after the other half of the OTP died, doesn't mean he never loved Sirius. Sirius died, so Remus has moved on with another person, the only other person who is still grieving for his lover, his lover's cousin. Either he's just seeking comfort, or he is moving on.
5. And besides the AUs where Sirius is still alive that I don't particularly like, what have the fics we've been writing (or reading in my case) been about? The memories, the MWPP era, the two years after Azkaban. How does that change now? Remus has Tonks now, but who do you think he's remembering?

There are plenty of fics coming out of [livejournal.com profile] remusxsirius and that goes to show that my ship is still sailing. Although many of the non-story posts just keep repeating the same thing. I'm fine with digging through that to find the stories.

So going through people's posts and comments reveal a repeating pattern of thought. Many hp fans seem to have gone through an "Oh no, my ship is sunk, but I will prevail! _/_ is still alive!" phase. Mainly R/S although, I've seen a number of comments about Snape pairings too as basically every Snape story is now AU or OOC. After that it seems as though everyone talks about 3 theories that although are possible, they seem unlikely because everyone's thought of them.

They are:
-R.A.B is Regulus Black who's middle name could be from his uncle Alphard. That means that the locket mentioned in OotP on page 116 is the horcrux (whore crutch, just had to mention it) Regulus stole from the cave.
-Harry/Harry's scar is a horcrux as Dumbledore said in book 2 somewhere that Voldy had transferred some of himself to Harry the day he "died" so therefore Harry has some of Voldy's soul.
-Dumbledore told Snape through Legilimency that he must kill him - stupid ambiguous pronouns - that Snape must kill Dumbledore because he (Dumbledore) was going to die anyways through the liquid from the cave and that at least Snape would still be alive and part of the DEs.

Everywhere I go, at least one person has complained about their ship dying (I'm guilty of it too) and mentioned one of these theories.

So I'm over my annoyance and such of yesterday. I still get my fanfic, and the new canon just makes for more interesting plots to get around the problems.

So now I just have a few questions:
1. Why didn't she edit it better?
2. Why did the characterization of almost all the characters change or disappear? Is that just because of my reading fanfiction or did other people notice that too?
3. Why were basically all the secondary characters forgotten that weren't involved in the romance? Like Neville? Where was he?
4. Why did Dumbledore have to drink the stuff in cave? If the goblet could penetrate *coughcough* the liquid, why couldn't they have used the goblet to dump the liquid out on the ground? Or why couldn't they have at least tried? And how is it logical that the goblet could touch the liquid but they and their wands couldn't?
5. Why does everyone and their brother have a nickname? Snape with HBP, Riddle with all of his, Harry with all of his and watch R.A.B. will turn out to be a nickname like Rabid Ant Bomber or something. So that's three people, but still. It seems like alternate names keep popping up. Oh and the Marauders with their names.
6. What was with all the drinking? I mean alcohol must have been mentioned a million times in this book. Not that I have anything against that, but it rarely showed up before.
7. Why was so much of the book about the "slug" club and romance?
8. Finally, has Tonks age ever been mentioned? I know she finished Hogwarts at the age of 17 or 18, as those are the ages everyone finishes, and then went into auror training for three years and it's now been three years since her auror training, so she's what 23 or 24? And Remus is 37? Whatever, I don't care about the age difference, it's only 14 years... Remus deserves some love after what he's been through.

Ahahaha, Ben's summary of HBP. The link's messed up by the way (do you mean this?).

Regulus stealing the horcruxorwhatever makes sense. Didn't it say in OotP that Voldemort killed Regulus personally? Wouldn't him stealing the horcrux be a valid reason for Voldemort to be killing Regulus personally?

If Remus is 37 & Tonks is about 23, the fact being that he was probably shagging Sirius when she was a baby is kind of weird. Not to mention that I saw no reason for Tonks/Remus to happen. I like my ship too much.

Ya, thanks.

My only problem with that is that everyone's thought of it. And before now, JKR has been able to surprise us without being completely random like this book. But it's always been the theories of one or two people that don't catch on that end up being true. But whatever. And the other theory that's going around is that Regulus died from the liquid in the cave as the note said he'd be dead before Voldemort found out and that Sirius's story of his brother's death is untrue because it was second hand and nothing ever validated it. And if that's true that means Dumbledore was going to die anyways and it didn't matter that Snape killed him.

Ya it is wierd and there was no reason for them to get together. But I don't care that they did. R/S lives on.

1. Because she has obviously lost her everloving mind.
2. See 1.
3. Given how this book went, snogging someone random. That or joining Western Union with all the messages being delivered.
4. Dumbledore is a creation of JKR, who, as has been said, has lost her everloving mind.
5. They call me Ishmael for no good reason. (When Rai is punch drunk it's Ishy-Wishy, but usually Ish for short.) Nicknames happen. Especially when you have lost your everloving mind.
6. They've been binge drinking butterbeer since 8th grade. Is it any wonder they need a Hogwarts AA meeting now?
7. Because those things are normal. In her everloving mindlessness, JKR has decided to underline that fact that prats and snogging will happen no matter who the war is against.
8. She's about that according to the Lexicon. Maybe she changes herself to look like Sirius when she spends the night with Remus...

The thing about Remus/Tonks that bugged me wasn't it killing the ship--I never thought it would do that. It's that it means that JKR couldn't possibly support it. Sirius's death hardly changed that, but this does.

We can't say 'theirloveiscanon' anymore because it's not. Yes, they could still have been in love and yes it's still more likely than any other slash pairing. But until now, we had no indication that either Remus or Sirius was interested in women--in fact, we had what might be evidence that they weren't. Beyond their relationship--platonic or not--with each other, they could honestly have been gay.
Now, Remus at least isn't. And yes, he still could be, but *Rowling* no longer intends him to be. For the purpose of the actual series, either he's straight, or Rowling's going to have to actually out him and I don't think she's going to. Either we really find out he's gay/bi, or he's not, because we now have evidence that he's interested in women.

And, beyond the complete randomness of it, *that's* what bugs me. That we could have had a real gay character and all she had to do was not give him a het romance for two more books. But she blew it, and with no build up or reason or anything. Just two or three horrid sentences (and not horrid just because of the R/T) that she could just as easily left out.
