I spent much of yesterday browsing through all of [livejournal.com profile] teh_indy's graphics and saving a million of her icons, regardless of whether I'll ever use them. And then I came across this, so I downloaded it and looked at all the pretty pictures of Desmond and felt the need to have it as my own. And I looked around and found that you can create your own mood theme if you have a sponsered account. But as I dislike the ads, I tried to figure out if there was a loophole where you could create the custom mood with the sponsored account and then switch back to free and still have the mood theme and lo and behold there is. So I switched to sponsored for all of a minute, created the mood theme and then switched back. Now I'm extremely happy. Look at the pretty Desmond. *pets*

Ok. Go here And click the button that says "upgrade to sponsored." You’ll be taken to a page where you can customize your ad settings. As you’ll only have the ads for as long as it takes to make the mood theme, just click the box next to "no thanks, I don’t want to select any ad categories." Click save and you’ve switched to a sponsored account.

Next go to the link I gave in my post, here and right click to save the coding for later.

Now then, go to the command console and type in moodtheme_create "Desmond" "the many moods of Desmond from ABC’s Lost". Hit execute and you should be given a number which is your theme id.

Open up the coding and replace the ##### with the number you just received (you can do this easily in notepad by clicking 'ctrl + h'). Next replace 'http://URLADDRESS/' with 'http://smg.photobucket.com/albums/v260/meorae/Desmond%20Mood%20Theme/' again using ctrl + h.

Once you've finished that, copy the entire thing, go back to the command console, paste it in, and hit 'execute'. Your theme should be ready to use now. Go here to choose it from the list.

Now that you've created the mood theme and chosen it, you can switch back to a free account. Go back here and click "switch to a free account." Click "switch to a free account" again on the next page and you'll be back to a free account, except now with a Desmond mood theme.

That loophole rocks. I was wondering if you could do that, but was afraid to try on the slim off chance that they wouldn't let you switch back to a free account for some reason (like, to try to force people to get a paid account or something ... yeah, I know I'm paranoid).

I spent like an hour reading through the FAQs and making sure that it would work. And then tried it on my other journal ([livejournal.com profile] cheulou) which I use to test out graphics and whatnot, actually just used to figure out my current layout as I had no idea if you could add a background image and how to do that if you could, but ya. I tried it out there, saw that it worked and then just did the same thing with my normal journal. It only works with mood themes though, as according to the faqs, they take away your extra icons and any of the other extra features if you switch to a free account from either sponsored or paid.

Yeah, for some reason I didn't think to try it on another journal.

Ok, so it doesn't rock as hard as it might. But still.
