meoraeThe past couple of days I haven't done anything... I stayed up until seven this morning rereading Ender's Game, as the first time I looked up after starting it last night, I was more than 2/3 of the way done and it was 4:30, so I decided to finish it. And besides that I've spent my whole time reading yuletide fic.
Yuletide is a yearly fic exchange for obscure or rarely written fandoms. This year, 2042 stories were written in 734 different fandoms by 1291 participants and so much of it is incredibly amazing. My recs are under the cut, but go here and browse through the fandoms that interest you.

This sent chills down my back. Creepy, but amazing.

Fandom: Orson Scott Card - Enders Game series
Rating: PG
Summary: Ender likes to listen to other students talk about the battles, because he can learn things that way. He's the sort to learn best by doing, but it isn't possible to be doing everything at once, and so he tries to absorb what he can.
This fic made me want to reread the book. And I had to reread the fic after I did. This gets you into Ender's mind and it works and it fits and "all that matters is the enemy's gate is down."

Fandom: Love Actually
Rating: G
Summary: For Harry, coming back home meant trying to piece his life back together.
It would be Sarah to give Harry advice about this. This fic was made even better by the fact that I read it right after watching the movie.
Title: INSECURITY COMICS
Fandom: Dinosaur Comics
Rating: G
Summary: T-Rex feels insecure about his tiny arms after someone makes fun of him.
This could be one of the comics. I think someone said they would photoshop it so it would be. ETA: So much love!

Summary: Ben/Alison. Everyone has to have their say.
The movie was horrible, but I laughed at it and this fits right in.

Summary: The first time Mark sees her, it's through his camera lens.
In gay canons, I seem to enjoy het pairings more. It's weird. A nice look at how Mark and Maureen might have met.

Summary: After getting kicked out of the limo, there are certain things Jimmy needs to know. Chazz helps him learn.
I love this movie more than I probably should - it's so bad that it's good. This is like a group of deleted scenes.

Summary: The woods are lovely, dark and deep. And, for Neil Perry, full of secrets and surprises.
Oh Neil, oh Todd.
Title: There Will Be No Survivors (Except for the Survivors Behind the Curtain, But Pay No Attention to Them)

Summary: Westley wants to turn the Dread Pirate Roberts gig over to Inigo, but things aren't going quite as smoothly as he hoped.
A funny epilogue to the movie/book.

Fandom: Tamora Pierce - Tortall series
Rating: G
Summary: Gary invites Squire Alan along on a midnight adventure, with interesting results.
Cute and sweet interlude with Gary, Alan(na) and Jon.

Fandom: Hana-Kimi aka Hanazakari no Kimitachi E aka For You In Full Blossom (manga)

Summary: "All that damn alcohol and Umeda had gotten neither sex nor amnesia. What a fucking rip-off."

Fandom: Prince of Egypt
Rating: PG
Summary: In Midian, Moses was a stranger in a strange land; now he is on familiar soil, but a stranger nonetheless.
Heartbreakingly beautiful.
Title: Intimacy Issues
Fandom: Dexter (tv)
Rating: PG
Summary: Dexter takes some time to deal with old ghosts that haunt him, after some years have passed.
I've only seen one episode of Dexter, but this fic is amazing even not knowing the canon.
Title: Between a Waiter and a Hard Place
Fandom: Douglas Adams - Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy series
Rating: G
Summary: Arthur and Ford have lunch; it goes about as well as it always does, except for the parts where it goes worse.
This could easily be a missing scene from the original canon. "I never bring money to a restaurant, they might find it and take it away." Oh Ford. &hearts
Title: Yule Morning, or, Malvolio's Revenge
Fandom: Shakespeare - Twelfth Night
Rating: PG
Summary: Comedy tonight.
A full-blown Shakespearean play with blank verse and iambic pentameter and puns. So much &hearts for the brilliance of this.
Title: The Strange and Not Entirely Ineffective Courting of Jon Stewart by Stephen T. Colbert
Fandom: RPF - Punditslash
Rating: PG
The title tells you all you need to know about this. I was curious after seeing a bunch of recs for this so clicked and read and wasn't disappointed. Oh Colbert, how I love you.

&hearts to Fry and Laurie and this fic. A wonderful mix of insanity with a good dose of reality thrown in.

I haven't finished reading this yet, but that's because it's a full-blown novel. It's amazing so far, though.

I laughed, I cried, I felt ashamed, I recoiled in disgust and that is why this fic must be read. It's Sesame Street porn, you know you want to ruin your childhood by reading it.

&hearts Every single fic I've read from here has been beautiful or breathtaking or creepy and I can't choose favorites. All 24 fics from this year (I haven't yet read the ones from past years) could easily be published as fairy tales of their own.
